Success Story

Seeking and winning work against the odds

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Having a hearing disability, experiencing financial hardship and living in short-term emergency accommodation with his at-risk teenage daughter were some of the hardships Peter endured as he sought employment.

When Peter came to SkillsPlus we worked with him and a Salvation Army social worker to manage his housing issues and prepare a parenting plan. Peter's employment consultant then assisted with job search and interview skills, found suitable employers and sourced a cleaning position at a local high school. SkillsPlus further assisted with interpreting at Peter's interview and advising the employer of the support and services available to them if they chose to employ Peter.

To his credit, Peter was successful in securing the position and all within three months of participating in SkillsPlus' DEN program.
