What is the Australian Apprenticeships Access Programme?

The Access Programme is an initiative of the Australian Government funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. The Access Programme provides job seekers who experience barriers to skilled employment with pre-vocational training, support and assistance to obtain and maintain an Australian Apprenticeship. Alternatively, a job seeker may be supported into employment, further education or training.

A mature-age student, Rita, had been working previously as a factory worker before becoming unemployed for a number of years. She also had a period of homelessness and suffered numerous physical and mental barriers. After completing the ACCESS program, Rita has now started a traineeship and discovered a passion for working in the Aged Care industry where she feels she is ‘meant to be’.
