Integrated School Based New Apprenticeships (ISBNAs) allow students to be enrolled as a trainee and still attend school. Each student completes one day's work per week (to be included as part of the required 15 hours of work per week) during the school's normal Monday to Friday operations.
Traditionally, School Based New Apprenticeships (SBNAs) have been conducted over and above the normal school workload for students. Students undertaking part time work after hours and on weekends may be eligible for a School Based New Apprenticeship to compliment their school curriculum.
Although all traineeships/apprenticeships can be undertaken as a ISBNA only certain qualifications have been approved to work towards a student's VCE result.
The following qualifications have been approved for delivery by the VCAA for ISBNAs:
- Certificate II in Retail Operations
- Certificate II in Business
- Certificate II in Hospitality Operations
As well as gaining some credit for VCE results, in some cases students would be eligible to gain credit at unit 1-2 and 3-4 levels.
The following process applies for students
§ Students sign a training agreement with the employer who is committed to providing training for an agreed period
§ A training plan is developed and signed by the trainee and the school
§ Students are provided with on-the-job training (after work or during school hours) and do not have to attend any extra classes
§ Students learn new skills in a workplace setting
§ Students can apply as long as they are over 15 years of age
§ The traineeship is part-tine for a minimum of 15 hours per week of which one day must be a school day (Monday - Friday)
§ Students with disabilities are eligible to apply for a school-based traineeship
§ All students are provided with training on the job and self paced work specific to the work requirements
§ Will be issued with a nationally recognised certificate/qualification upon successful completion
